Archos family of internet tablets finally receives update to Android 2.2 Froyo

 Archos Internet Tablets receive FroYo

Archos, which recently revealed its FroYo update timeline via Facebook, has held true to its word.  As of today, anxious Archos internet tablet owners can get in on the Froyo goodness. For their price and functionality, the Archos line of internet tablets are an excellent option if you're in the market for an Android powered portable media player or tablet.  I'm guilty of owning an aged iDevice from 2007, and I'm looking for any reason to ditch it for an Android PMP, and this FroYo update could be what it took for me to get on board with Archos.

FroYo brings quite an impressive list of improvements and enhancements to the Archos family.  In addition to the infamous JIT compiler, Android 2.2.1 brings enhanced Microsoft Exchange support, better 3rd party application support, improved camera operation, faster USB transfer and more.

Hit the break for a full list of improvements.  And of course, head into our tablet forums to share your thoughts.  Let us know what you think of FroYo on your Archos tablet.  [Archos.com]

Sony PSP to gain unlimited music via cloud-based Qriocity service

Just days after Sony's Qriocity video-on-demand service went live across Europe, in flies this -- news that the aforesaid service will be spreading its wings and touching the PSP in short order. Word on the street has it that the next PlayStation Portable update (v6.35) will bring along Music Unlimited powered by Qriocity, described as a "new, cloud-based, digital music service from Sony that will give music lovers access to millions of songs stored and synchronized through the cloud." Post-update, users will notice a new icon in the PSP's XrossMediaBar under the 'Music' category, and moreover, the Media Go application for managing PSP downloadable content on your PC will be updated "with enhancements to the user interface and advanced photo editing tools." Sony's remaining mum on a launch date, but the internet is already abuzz about what this may mean for the impending PlayStation Phone. Will Sony finally have a leg-up over iOS with an ingrained unlimited music client? A boy can dream, can't he?

Update: Tipster Isaac spotted the screen above and the one after the break on his PSPgo today. Looks like the launch may be sooner than we'd imagined, eh?

Sprint & Clear 4G Comes To LA, DC, Miami And More

The 4G rollout continues! With T-Mobile now claiming that their HSPA+ network is "4G," and Verizon Wireless claiming the same for their incoming LTE network, it's getting hard to know what's what. WiMAX is the original 4G network, and both Clearwire and Sprint are working hard to bring that network to more and more people. Every few weeks now it seems like another major market is getting Spring 4G, and that's the case again this week. Los Angeles, Miami, Washington, D.C., Cleveland, Cincinnati and Columbus,

Nov. 29, 1972: Pong, a Game Any Drunk Can Play

1972: Pong, the first popular videogame, is released in its original arcade-game form.
If it seems crude by today’s standards, well, it was crude then, too. And it was meant to be. Pong was the brainchild of Nolan Bushnell, a founder of Atari, who was inspired to develop it after playing an electronic table-tennis game at [...]

Free Partition Master from Easeus now works on 64-bit Windows, too!

Easeus Partition Master has always been a great little app. It's a powerful yet easy-to-use disk partitioning tool that makes managing your hard disks a breeze. Better still, it runs right in Windows -- handy for people like me who always miss the 'Press F11 for boot menu' prompt. There was one big downside to the free version, however: it didn't support 64-bit versions of Windows.

That's all changed, however. Easeus has decided that it's time for all versions to support Windows x64, including Partition Master Free. The new version also supports removable devices and Linux partitions. Partition Master is totally free, as long as you're running it on a home computer -- you'll still need the Pro version for your workplace or if you want to manage a Windows Server OS.

Apple Tablet Is Coming, Whether We Need It or Not

Internet detectives are dredging up details around Apple's tablet computer. The Wall Street Journal noted the device aims to change the personal computing experience. Meanwhile, blogger Joe Wilcox argued that the world does not need another tablet, at least not one when the world has smartphones such as Apple's iPhone. He was quickly eviscerated in digital ink by TechCrunch blogger and Apple devotee MG Siegler and blogger/pundit Robert Scoble. If this Apple tablet proposes to dramatically alter the computing experience as we know it and ends up costing $500 or less someday, I will reconsider buying it or something of its ilk. - News Analysis: Just as blogger sleuths gradually unearthed the fine
